Chartered in 1919 with four employees, RBI Corporation (formerly Richmond Battery & Ignition) was founded on a commitment to service. In its earliest days, that meant maintaining batteries for electric cars—a niche that would soon evolve alongside the broader automotive aftermarket, including products like Briggs & Stratton locks and keys.

In 1946, RBI became a distributor for the emerging small engine division of Briggs & Stratton, when gasoline-powered washing machines represented one of the biggest opportunities. Following World War II, demand surged as gasoline-powered equipment rapidly transformed the lawn and garden industry. RBI grew with it, expanding its product offering to include complementary outdoor power equipment parts.

By 1978, RBI made the strategic decision to focus entirely on the outdoor power equipment industry, relocating to a 53,000-square-foot facility to support continued growth. A second location followed in 1987, adding another 20,000 square feet of warehouse space, with additional shipping facilities opening in the years since.

This growth has been driven by RBI’s ongoing commitment to service and its strong network of independent dealers. RBI supports its partners with technical training, 28 field service representatives, and seasonally staffed customer service call centers. Orders received by 5:00 p.m. EST—via fax, phone, EDI, or online—ship the same day from a two-shift warehouse operation.

With modern systems, a dedicated dealer network, and a continued focus on service, RBI Corporation is well-positioned to meet the evolving demands of the outdoor power equipment industry.

Our Albany, GA warehouse was added in October, 2007 with 40,000 square feet for inventories. Our Louisville, KY warehouse was added in December 2008 with 18,000 square feet. 

Louisville and Albany locations are key to providing the next day service that our customers have become accustomed to and to growing our new expanded territory in the Southeast.
